I am new to this web group but I am not new to recovery. I have been in recovery from drugs and alcohol for almost 9 years. I did not know that my dad was an alcoholic until 10 years ago, and his alcoholism has really escalated since my stepmom dies. He is. now living with me and my family. He is 78, a genius IQ wise, and mentally ill in addition to alcoholic. I always knew he was super smart but super crazy, I just had never seen alcohol thrown into the mix. All I ever saw him drink was a beer very few times. Little did I know. So now I am dealing with his alcoholism and trying to keep my serenity along with my sobriety. Al anon is a new thing for me. I didn’t see what I would get from it that I don’t get from all of my AA readings and meetings but my sponsor in AA is also in Al anon so she wanted me to try it. I loved the reading from Courage to Chamge today and I am just trying to follow the advice and take it one day at a time.

Welcome, Karenroo. Congratulations on your 9 yrs. of sobriety.
It's good of you to be looking after your father, but I can imagine the challenge it must be. I do hope you'll check out the link Dee posted - you are not alone in dealing with this.
