Blood Pressure has Normalized

One of the many gifts sobriety has given me. Today at 81 days sober, Dad and I decided to check my blood pressure.

Three days after my sobriety date my number was 171/101...I was at risk of hypertension and of a heart attack at age 35 with cholesterol in the 300's.

Today, blood pressure read at 114/79.

It is not just about correcting this spiritual malady, the physical healing that happens in the body is REAL.

I am grateful to be sober and have a chance at life.

Thanks!

That’s fantastic. My hbp went down to normal when I stopped drinking too. The body certainly does heal itself.

Last week Monday had an appointment with my new doc, I got the usual rant about drinking (she was going by my med records) needless to say I hadn't drank in awhile, as I mentioned to her, and her eyes rolled, BP was 117/77, and liver tests were normal, after she dug deeper in my records. It was dropped after that. Loved putting her in her place. Her bedside manner was least to be desired. May ask for different doc.

Thanks everyone, it is really a miracle what the body can do!

It is also in the eyes, something more serene and put together, a sharpness. I love having this.

Your GP should be somebody with whom you have a mutual respect. If you decide to switch docs, I would consider giving feedback to your old doc. It might just resonate and they will reconsider how they treat future patients. They might be the expert in medicine, but you are the expert of your own body.

That’s pretty special news. Your doctor might have felt obliged to prescribe tablets with your first reading, and you don’t want to be on BP meds unless absolutely necessary. Keep an eye on the BP. I measure mine every morning after waking - that’s too often, but it’s a habit. I reckon weekly is OK.

The effect of alcohol on resting heart rate has been mentioned on here too. It really increases even after just a few drinks and takes two days or so to go back down. My resting pulse is around 50 (I do a lot of running), but last time I drank (December 2018) it was up to 58
