I Have A Question

Does this site cost money?

How does it operate?

Do the mods get paid or donate their time?

Just curious because I dont see a "donations accepted" ad or anything

Thank you

I don't know what you mean by 'does this site cost money'. There are ads which pay for it, as far as I know. The mods and admin do not get paid, they volunteer their time.

I'm not sure what you mean by 'how does it operate?' but no one here is paid. We are all volunteers. There is no membership fee and there never has been.

I did not have to pay to sign up here, and i am not paid in any way as a forum leader. I can say beyond a shadow of a doubt though that this site has been more valuable to me than just about anything I can imagine. I met people who helped change my life, and learned how to do it myself. I cannot imagine where I would be if I didn't find SR.

The site is owned by IB Internet Brands.

They fund all the operating costs for the forums. There are a few ads on the forums that contribute to the operating costs.

Our wonderful Admins and Moderators volunteer lots of time to keep the forums operating smoothly. They do it from their heart and not for financial gain.

Our wonderful members also volunteer lots of time to support others in their recovery journey.

It's a team effort.

ib internet brands looks to be quite an interweb company. combine the ads on all of what they own i would think that they have to be making a profit after the light bill is paid.

As has been said several times by different people, I'm a volunteer, not an employee.

Never earned a cent here, never wanted to. not privy at all to the inner workings of our owners or their financial state - never want to be.

I'd love a site than ran on love, fresh air and mungbeans but those kind of sites don't exist anymore, especially of this size.

Modern websites cost money.

The alternative to ads is some form of user pays. Thats ok on a Doctor Who forum where people pay to be patrons and get special privileges - there's no harm done there...but I can't imagine that working here.

It kinda bums me out that a lot of people seem to be stuck on the money thing, to be honest.

I love that this site is open to anyone with an internet connection.
I love that this site changes lives...and helps save them.
I love the way that it unites people all around the world.

I think a lot of lives would be poorer if there were no SR.

My life was saved here and I love giving back.

Thats my deal here.
Mic drop.

The end.

I hope that IB makes a modest profit from SR. They are very good to us, allowing us to do our thing, with minimal input from them. I often think how very lucky we are to have an owner who takes cares of the tech part of our website. If you think about it, we have almost no 'down-time', if at all, on this website.

Bottom line, I've been here a long time and I fully appreciate and am grateful for, what we have here. I am grateful for IB, for all the mods/admins/greeters, and for each and every member. We are a team, we do this together and it becomes a place where people can change and save their lives.

I think it is a fantastic site.

It is moderated so well that arguments etc never materialise. We all support each other.

I for one would be truly lost without it.

Thank you to all that are part of it.

The mods here ARE fantastic.

I guess I just honestly wanted to know if it was funded by the rehab.industry.

I was listening to a John Bradshaw vid and he said we are being preyed upon by these industries, with alcohol ( or drugs) and then "the cure" costing us.

Idk just trying to sort things in my anxious mind.

Thank you

I hadn't given this question any thought so I found this thread interesting. I would like to just say a huge, huge thanks to Dee and Anna. I really think you are both exceptional in terms of your commitment and especially in terms of your calmness and empathy of approach. If there are other moderators around big thanks to them too but you are the two I feel I know.

I find it strange that this question even is asked. The site is free for me. I am also free to leave it whenever I want. I am so grateful that this site exists and that it is so extremely well run with such massive input by the moderators and members. Long may it last and help effect change for people like me.

Dee and Anna are treasures. I feel like they keep so many of us safe. But I do not find it strange at all the question(s) that ShiftHappens asks. Dee and Anna indeed warn us to be vigilant of online predators, etc. And even though I am so grateful for this forum in my brief time here, it is good to know what the site is about, who is paying, etc. I have never felt for a moment that I was anything but safe on this site, but I do not ever mind the question being asked and discussed. That is good and healthy for everyone. Facts are nothing to be afraid of.
