Urine test showed microscopic blood

hi bit worried been a drinker for 2yrs started when I was 30 due to anxiety I was masking it with alcohol rather than going to see someone about anxiety.
the past 6days I have been having severe back and side pain that’s goung down to my testicles so went to gp done a urine sample in the office and it showed up that I had blood in my urine you can’t see the blood it’s microscopic now am worried I have some sort of cancer due to the alcohol abuse I am 32yrs old they have giving me trimethoprim to take see if that helps and sent of my urine sample to the lab now am really worried

I;m sorry you have to wait for results. If you've been given an antibiotic like trimethoprim chances are your doc thinks it's bacterial (not medical advice just common sense )

what did your dr say?

I hope it proves to be nothing serious David.

Thanks

hi at first I went to the out of hours doctor they took a sample there and then and said I had white cells in my urine they would send it to the lab for testing and I was to phone up Tuesday for results so phoned up and they didn’t have them so asked for a appointment to see my gp but they was fully booked and I got the advance nurse practitioner, so told her what’s been going on and I already had a Urine test done she told me she can’t see it on the system said the hospital must have lost it! So done another yesterday and she said it had microscopic blood in my urine and she’s sending it away and she gave me trimethoprim, am really worried it’s something bad and it’s not helping my anxiety in anyway I have not had or thought about alcohol in 5days it’s gave me a wake up call tbh

I know it's hard to wait - but staying sober really is the best thing you can do David

Hope you get results back ASAP

D

Really this could be absolutely anything. Someone I know ended up with blood in his urine through taking too many vitamin C tablets because he had a cold coming. I'd just take the cold myself. Anyway, it's unfortunately far too easy these days to play health bingo with Dr.Google. Try not to worry and trust the real life doctors to sort you out.

Giving up the alcohol will help with the anxiety in the long run. I was in a social situation last night which I would previously have found extremely difficult without alcohol to 'socialise' me. Last night I was comfortable in my own skin. I feel stronger every day.

I had severe lower back and side pain. They found blood in my urine. Ended up being I was passing kidney stones. Hang in there until you get results. I'm sure all is OK.

Had a similar thing when I was a kid. Turned out to be a kidney infection. I also suffered from similar pains when drinking, I am sure it was again to do with kidneys as stopped once I stopped drinking.

Hard but try not to worry. Sounds to me very much like some kind of mundane issue like Dee says. Good it's given you the kick start into stopping. When you get the results back and it's nothing serious, just take your new found sobriety and run with it... I'm 4 months in and everything is 100% better.

I wish you the best with the diagnosis.

I hope that you continue to not drink.

I suggest that you evaluate and select a program of sobriety/recovery instead of trying to not drink on your own.
