Brain Fog- I feel like I can’t think straight!!!
Hi All, I’m new to the forum. I’ve been sober for ten days and feel like my brain is not working well. I have trouble concentrating and get fatigued easily. This is causing me anxiety because I’m worried I have permanent brain damage. I started drinking again four months ago, my brain was working fine before then. Help, please! Will this get better?!?
Welcome to the family. Ten days sober is still pretty early in recovery and your body and brain are still healing. Give yourself more sober time to get back to normal functioning. Good food, rest, and exercise will help.
Yes, it will get better, but it will take time. This is very common. You have been abusing your brain and body for years. It will take quite a bit longer than 10 days for them to recover.
It should improve soon. For me, I got steadily better with some days that seemed to go backwards a bit.
Patience, good nutrition, plenty of sleep and hydration and no alcohol helped me get sharper than I had been in a long time after my first year of sobriety.
As said above, it takes time to heal the abuse of years. Each relapse is harder to come back from as well--so your best bet is to stay quit for good

Glad you are here! 10 days is awesome. Every day is awesome! And, yes, it takes time. Everyone's body is different but we all find it takes some amount of days, weeks, or for me months, for strength and healing in mind and body to make good progress.
The newcomers thread, Class of July 2019, might be a good place to visit- it's folks quitting this month like you.
Keep going! Drinking again and restarting only makes the process worse.

Yep, pretty normal. I was so tired early on and just couldn't really think straight. I slept a lot - like maybe 12 hours a day. Tried to eat right. Drank a ton of water. After a couple of weeks it started to get better, but I'd say it was a couple of months before the fatigue and fog was mostly gone.

How did you people sleep? I didn't sleep at all the first 48 years and only 2 or 3 hours a night the first week after quitting (and each relapse).
I'm not much of a sleeper as it is though. Only time I've ever slept 12 hours a day is the couple times I've been under anesthesia the next morning lol

Thank you all so much for your support! I’m on day 15 now and my the brain fog and anxiety are MUCH better! It’s the constant headache I’ve had for 10 days now. I’m sure that will get better (I hope) as my brain and body adjusts to an alcohol-free environment!😎

Yes around day 10 is exactly where brain fog starts to set in. It will eventually taper off. I know it sounds crazy but try to look at this as a positive sign. This is what every person goes through when they are quitting drinking.
It's not permanent!
