This is a line from that old classic Little Women: “Nothing is ever perfect...but things can be just right.”
As recovering alcoholics we often feel that life is not that great. I guess that after the chaos, agony, pain and loathing that alcoholism brought we expect some nirvana moment where everything will just be wonderful for ever after. It takes a bit of time and comprehension to realise that reality does not work that way. There are still major problems, set-backs, disappointments, hardship and sorrow. Everyday life still mostly consists of the mundane.
That is not unfair or surprising. We are now where everybody else is. Having to deal with life on life’s terms without chemical assistance. That is just about how it should be, it is just about right.
