Day 8 - I did a thing today...

My kids (ages 12, 10 and 8) have been begging me for YEARS to buy a bunny. Well, today we did. You guys, wtf was I thinking?! I know nothing about owning a bunny and I am so scared I'm going to do something wrong that could hurt him. Anyone have experience that could give me some advice or tips? He is a 2 month old Lop Rabbit and my kids are over the moon in love. They named him Snickers. He's SO sweet and absolutely adorable. The pet store told us not to touch him for 3 days, so we are stuck just looking at him and I swear if emojis were in real life we would all have hearts in our eyes! Additional pictures are in the comments <3

I used to be in 4-H as a kiddo and showed rabbits, as well as bred a couple of litters. I have never heard of a rule of not touching them for 3 days. Did he say why? That is so odd to me.
Rabbits can be awesome pets! They will learn their name and come when they are called. I know they are pretty easy to potty train although I never did with any of mine. They will chew on everything so watch your electrical chords and anything else you don't want destroyed lol. Lops are sweet and generally pretty docile. Have fun!!

Well, my picture never posted because the file was too big. After having to stop several times to help my kids with various things, by the time I got it resized it wouldn't let me post it. Soooo here is Snickers I'm not sure why it's sideways...sorry about that!

Oh, always make sure when you pick him up to support his legs/behind. They will freak out and kick and inevitably end up giving you some pretty bad scratches.

Gee, thanks, tomsteve I did think about that and I have been researching frantically all day...nothing compares to first-hand experience/advice though!

They told me it would stress him and he could develop severe diarrhea and die???

Well, rabbits are relatively delicate but in the dozens of rabbits I have had experience with, not once has this happened. I do appreciate him erring on the side of caution though. I honestly do not think 3 days is necessary but maybe he knows something I don't. Interesting.

I'd be petting him a lot to get him used to affection. Congrats on your new addition to the family.

I grew up with pet bunnies and petting them is a great thing to do. Gentle movements, treats, calm voice, etc.

I raise rabbits and have never heard of this. It’s encouraged to check the nest as newly born kits as a matter of good practice so I can’t imagine this caveat.
