Trying to stop

Hi all,
I'm currently trying to stop drinking. I've stopped many times and it gets harder each time to stay sober. Just reaching out for the encouragement needed to try again. I hate fighting through the cravings. I have noticed taking kudzo helps me personally. I just want to feel ok and not have this huge monkey on my back. Thx for listening

Hello PrayBreathe,

I love your user name. You can do this. There are good people here that are really helpful in this battle. I found Magnesium and Super B combo to help, but it takes some time. Try to be easy with yourself. Im glad you are here

Thank you for the kind words!! I sure need them. I ran out of my B's but have some coming in the mail. I hope this will be the last time I have to go through this. I want to stay sober. Thanks again.

Hello and welcome. You'll find a lot of support here.
You can hope this is the last time you go through this, or you can make it the last time you go through this. It's really up to you.
I, too, love your name. Prayer is what saves me from drinking.
If you want to be sober more than you want to drink, you're on your way to sobriety.
It may take prayer, it may take AA, it may take any of a number of things. But all of them are attainable if you have an open mind and are willing.
I was a very bad drunk and haven't had a drink of alcohol in over ten years.
It took effort to stop hoping and start taking action, because I had proven time and again, I couldn't quit on my own.

I hope you stick around. You really can quit. Believe.

You can make it this time. Pay particular attention to make it thru the first 3 days.

Pretend that "staying sober" is your JOB.

Here is a fantasy scenario that may prove helpful:

So you have been hired as an employee and your job is "Stay sober no matter what".

And if you make it past 1 year of complete sobriety then the company will pay you. If you slip...then you get nothing.

It starts as a fantasy but actually its not really a fantasy. Because TRUST ME if you go 1 year sober you are going to "get paid". And not just with money.

To keep things simple start with the 3 days. Dont drink NO MATTER WHAT. Remember that "Your only job is to stay sober".

You are a secret Agent. That is your mission: Stay clean no matter what.

Thank you for pointing that out! I didn't realize I said that. I appreciate the support and encouragement. Prayer has been big for me too. Being surrounded by family that drinks in moderation is constant reminder of what I can't have. There's no way I can drink in moderation. I just have to be ok with that. Maybe having SR is the missing piece that will give me the extra push to keep going. Thanks

This is a good idea. Not sure it will work for me, but I'll give it a try. Thank you for your kindness.

Welcome, PrayBreathe - it's wonderful to have you with us.

I drank 30 yrs. No one in my life understood what I went through - they were all social drinkers. They would advise me to 'just have one or two' - not realizing that for us, there is no such thing as moderation. When I found SR I was immediately calmer & no longer felt alone. That meant everything. I never intended to stay, but here I am - almost 12 yrs. later. I never did drink again. I know you can do this.

I'm sincerely happy you're here. I know how you feel. This place is my lifesaver. Just be forgiving of yourself. If you don't drink today you win. Period.
