Gratitude when you've lost 'everything'
Ok, so I've lost my daughter, my dog, my friends, my marriage, my 6 figure job, my car, my license, my clean record, my home and all my money and credit.
The following may be small things but I feel I need to list what I HAVE, that I should be grateful for, that others may not have.
Clean clothes - actually, lots of clothes
A bed to sleep in tonight
The opportunity to see my daughter, tuck her into bed and walk my dog before I go into rehab.
An opportunity to go through a 28 day treatment program.
Ice cold water to drink.
Shampoo, conditioner, soap, razors, deodorant, a hairbrush, a toothbrush and toothpaste.
Cigarettes
A really comfy baseball hat
Makeup
A laptop
A cell phone
Food, meals, snacks, orange juice
Warm socks that just came out of the dryer
I know there's more, I just needed a reality check into my perception of things. Thanks for reading - add things as you'd like!

And you clearly have inner strength. That will take you very, very far. Thank you for the post. When I find it hard to remember what to be grateful for, its a sure sign I have taken things for granted. A dangerous sign.
I may be in the minority but I think that there is a reward in understanding what you have given up and being completely PO'd about it. I also drank away my first wife, my two children, money, a place to live etc. In a weird way, my disgust is what helped me to recover.
I also want to say that gratitude was huge. But, Sometimes seeing a glass half empty can be equally motivating.

That's a LOT to be grateful for- and a great start for building your new life with, truly. Take care of yourself and keep in touch with us while you are in rehab, if you can.
Glad you are getting sober and changing your life.

a biggie, my life..died x 3 from booze, blackout, burns. I lost everything too- and family never came back- gratitude fr live and living, rather than just existing in it.
I hope you work the rehab hard and grow
