21 months
Hello all. I posted in newcomers to share some hope to those newly sober. Next Thursday will be 21 months sober for me and exactly 2 years since I fell down a flight of stairs in a blackout and ended up in the hospital. In the nearly 2 years I have been sober, I learned A LOT. Life does not get magically better by getting sober, for me it got harder cause I stopped self medicating. But I learned to how to live life on lifes terms and deal with life, one day at a time, without relying on alcohol. I got divorced 2 months before I got sober so I had to deal with that as well as my recovery. I also could not work the last 2 years of my drinking. I have now had the same job for almost 2 years. I was 3 weeks sober when I started working there. I became an incredibly strong person, prior to my sober date I could not go 24 hours sober for years and was self destructive. I now love myself. I got involved with AA, got a sponsor, worked the 12 steps, found the love of yoga, Marvel Movies, and coffee. I also have a therapist who specializes in addiction and trauma. I have taken one day at a time, and said I will not drink today. And I have done that for 633 days now. Recovery works if you work it, whatever helps you hold onto that. God bless
