Missed a milestone
Missed a milestone
Today marks 1002 days without a drink. I’d calculated awhile ago that May 8 was the big day, but it was also a big day for work, and it just slipped my mind entirely.
1000 days in, I am more confident, lighter, (physically and otherwise) I am now in my former supervisor’s job, I have more money, more energy, improved relationships, and others I’ve let go with grace and Gratitude.
1000 days before my quit date I was a member of this site, one of the chronic relapsers. A person who came here and posted in spurts, then disappeared for months, only to crawl back, rinse, and repeat.
I believe in the chronic relapsers because I was one. I can’t put my finger on what happened August 12, 2016 that was objectively different. It wasn’t anything. Maybe it was August 13, or the 22. Or December 7, 2017. My point is that I took it one day at a time.
Thanks, SR. And thanks to those who are struggling. I believe in you. Make the choice every day, and do all of the work you can in that day. Go to sleep. Do it again. It gets easier.

LOVE this, bexxed! "crossing 1000" was so cool for me - and I am so proud of folks who go thru the relapse cycle you describe, in their own way, and stick w it and come back to share.
You reminded me to count my days today
Keep going!

For me, a mark of progress in recovery was realizing one day that I had forgotten my sobriety birthday one year. Didn't think about it until a week after it happened. Chalk it up to an achievement that normies accomplish without a second thought.
Congratulations on 1000 days, and congratulations on forgetting it! Now you're getting somewhere.

Thanks for the post. As a chronic relapser @ 9 months plus, you give me inspiration so thank you. I especially like the part about not being able to identify what exactly was the difference.
