Day 1

Im not sure where to start with all of this other than I don't want to ever drink again. This is day 1 for me. I feel like crap this morning but I know it will get better with time. I am not a daily drinker, I go 2 or 3 days a week without but the other 4 or 5 days I binge pretty hard. I am tired of living on this rollercoaster and want to stop.

Welcome Bluez. You found a great forum to help you turn your life around. The support offered here was tremendously helpful for me and I am sure it will be for you. It will be hard work at first, but believe me your effort will be awarded. Time passes fast and each day your cravings will become less and less. I recommend that you participate in the April 2019 group, you are not alone in your struggles, good luck!

Hi Bluez, glad you are here. The first few days are the most difficult physically. Take care of yourself, stay hydrated and keep posting.

You deserve all the joy a life without alcohol has to offer. Good things are ahead of you.

This is exactly how I’ve been living—4 or 5-day long binges that get really rough by the end. It feels just like a rollercoaster, like you said. Today is my day 2! I still feel pretty ******, but not near as bad as yesterday, so you have that to look forward to!

I am also struggling to stay sober. I am on Day 2. I can put a good stretch of sobriety together quite easily but it rarely lasts past the 2-3 week mark. This last time it was playoff games for Toronto's hockey and basketball teams. I guess I associate drinking with watching sports automatically.

I have tried to moderate before, limit myself to 3 or 4 beers. That works fine for a little while but before I even realize it i am back up to 10 to 15 and having more blackouts (lost memories, and time). I know now that i have to stop completely.

When I over do it, I can pretty much have only vague memories with no real idea what I was up to. Especially if I drink hard liquor. It's a tough cycle to break.

Good job Bluez - you're life can only improve from now. It's a definite journey in recovery and has ups and downs but always still better than continuing to drink, the rewards are undeniable staying sober.
