Yesterday was 3 weeks!
Yesterday was three weeks since my last beer, haven't been able to say that in over 20 years. Next Sunday will be a month, really looking forward to that. Just wanted to thank everyone for such a great site!

Thanks to all! Went to my 2nd AA meeting last night. To be honest I'm not 100% sold on every facet of AA but it's a positive environment and somewhere to be for now. One of the things that I knew would be a challenge is creating a social network that doesn't include alcohol and hopefully this helps.

Thanks, that's the goal for sure, just don't know what exactly that might look like yet.
The few people I've met at my first two meetings certainly seem very genuine and supportive. I believe that they honestly want to help and it's good to hear other people's stories, revelations, reflections etc. My social network up until now hasn't necessarily revolved around alcohol but it was certainly present, pool night, softball, tailgating etc so if nothing else it's nice to have somewhere to go other than the pub.
My biggest hang up/disagreement with AA is their higher power. I see that it has given a lot of people something to reach out to and find comfort in but I simply don't believe it. I don't believe in god, I don't think the universe is anything more than a lot of stuff, no consciousness, no purpose, no investment. And I am perfectly ok with that.
I plan to keep going, there's always something to be learned if we're willing to listen.

Went to another meeting this evening. Same general area but a different group of people, still all very welcoming. Really have no idea how/where this all will go but think the meetings are a positive influence for now so plan to keep going.
