Great choice...

This was the first alcohol free/sober recovery book I ever read... at the beginning of 2018. I found a lot of the things Catherine spoke about rang true with me and I could almost see myself in many of the situations she found herself in.

It's a book I often dip back into if I need a little motivation and I especially liked the "30 Things" she did during her recovery journey.

Enjoy!

Hi Mummyto2,

How about the kids spring cleaning their rooms? The teenager could perhaps help the younger child.

Congratulations on your recovery.

Happy spring!

She normally does but is studying hard for exams, so I’ve let her off

Ideas with another viewpoint:

Letting others do less than their capabilities isn't as helpful as it often seems.

If studying needs prioritizing, spring cleaning can wait - or be done in small bits to break up up the study time, which also can be beneficial to add a different action.

Gentleness of self to put off what doesn't need to be done immediately or being able to take on more for a short time are great things for our kids to learn. Life in balance.

Simply some reflections of my own I felt a gut instinct to share. Take what you like and leave the rest.

Hi Mummyto2,

I'm sorry. I wasn't meaning to insult you or your daughter and definitely wasn't implying she might be lazy.

I hope you enjoy the book, and the spring cleaning.

Oooh I read this about a year ago and enjoyed it a lot! I really identified with the author. I hope you enjoy it too!

My most favourite personal account of drinking (and quitting) is Drinking: A Love Story by Caroline Knapp. Her writing is so descriptive, observant and poetic. It made me see this madness in sudden bolts of insight that I’d never had before.

I’m struggling and I’ve just plucked it from my bookshelf. Thanks for you post!

I have that book, but haven't read it yet. It's in my stack of books to read. I read pretty much every recovery book I could get my hands on in the early days. I found it quite helpful. I hope you enjoy it!
