Weekender Thread 29 March - 01 April 2019
I'd like to welcome anyone new to SR and new to this thread.
Weekends can be a tough time -and that's what this thread is about - support.
We also share bits and pieces of our lives and the things that are important to us, or make us laugh..anything that makes the journey a little easier
If you've never jumped into a weekender thread before - no time like today...do it now!
I will be here along with many others, all of us ex drunks and alcoholics. We are your scouts and can tell you what is on the trail ahead so you can be ready for any obstacles. I can tell you to come on! It is rocky and slippery but if you focus on where you place each step, you will have no trouble getting to where I am on the trail. All of us can tell you where the potholes are, bumps in the road, and the slippery places, but we can't walk your path for you. We can only take joy as you succeed, and cheer, one and all!

SHOTGUN!
Morning everyone and thanks Mags for opening the new thread. Thank you too Dee for opening for the last year or so.
If you do have a problem with an addiction to alcohol or other drugs then the weekend is the hardest time not to indulge that vice but it is also the time of greatest payback if you don't use so do jump in and stop having those post weekends.

Although I致e been so busy lately I知 struggling to find time to post... I will be reading and checking in to say hello when I can. Time just seems to disappear lately now that I知 juggling different jobs, but I知 really enjoying things, and keeping busy gives me a sense of purpose again. Happy Friday everyone

Today I'm celebrating being all by myself. I'll be driving my family (all of them!) into work today. Then I'm coming back home as I have the day off! I don't remember the last time I've ever had the house all to myself for the whole day! Today, I'm doing things for me and celebrating the serenity!
Came across this:
When life's got you down,
and you don't hear a sound,
you feel short and small in a world loud and tall,
drowned in stress, and its a big mess,
pick up your uke and play.

Thanks, Mags!
I think I'll finally be able to buy a kayak this weekend. I've been looking for a while now, but I think the stores finally have them all displayed now. I need one that suitable for fishing, and for whatever reason, those cost a lot more than "recreational" kayaks. More bells and whistles, I guess, or just the realization by manufacturers that fisherpeople are willing to spend more to support their hobby. Because we are bit crazy. I also need a lighter rod and reel, because the one I bought last year is designed for bigger fish than I'll likely be fishing for from the kayak. I used to fish a lot as a younger person, so I'm happy to be returning to the hobby. It's a really great serene pastime.

Afternoon everyone.
Fishing from a kayak sounds like fun, MLD! Will you be using it on the lakes?
I’m going to give Nahko a listen, thanks Vman. I see they’ve toured with Xavier Rudd, whom you also discovered not to long ago.
Now Sao is likely aware of this already, but as I have it it’s World Piano Day! The reasoning being that today is the 88th day of the year, and a piano has just as many keys.
Mrs Haddock has her birthday on Sunday, so we have a night out planned for Saturday at cosy little French restaurant that we visit once a year or so on special occasions.
Winter is slowly arriving in the Southern Hemisphere, so perhaps this weekend will be a good time to clean and stack the fireplace, ready to be lit when the real cold weather arrives.

Captain, yes, mostly lakes or small lazy rivers. I'm not an experienced kayaker, and the man friend has never even been in a kayak, even though he has already bought his. So we will keep to slow-moving waters for now.
