The View From 2,556 Days
That would be 7 years today. And the clarity of mind, body, and spirit is crystalline. At age 71 I swam a mile outdoors @ 8,000 feet, I hike, mountain bike, meditate, and maintain a spiritual practice that frees me from any thoughts of alcohol. Not looking for kudos here. 7 years ago I had to sleep sitting up because I wheezed so bad from smoking (I quit that the same day), was malnourished, had BP of 205/105.
AA helped and SR helped. No gimmicks, no tapering. 21 day inpatient got me far enough away from both alcohol and the environment that gave rise to it.
We cannot do this alone. Get as many on your team as you can. This is the miracle of AA for me. That and the willingness to see ourselves as we truly are and the desire to live the life that is our birthright. I deserve it, you deserve it.
I found recovery to be a three legged stool. Physical, emotional, spiritual fitness. Neglecting one worked against the other two.
You really CAN do this. As someone once said "The only thing we have to fear is fear itself." The more we confront the dragon the less fearsome he becomes. Pretty soon he's a gecko scurrying from your path
Start where you are. I wanted 3 years in my first there weeks. Doesn't work that way. Soon you will begin living your whole life taking little tiny steps. Just start where you are, I don't care how far down. Take a step forward and none back. That's how it's done.

I'm so glad you stopped by, Warren. Thank you for a heartfelt post - it will help many, I'm sure. Little steps - be kind & patient with ourselves. We are living proof it can be done.
