My first post
My first post
Hello all,
I am about 12 hours sober. I'm pretty sure I will make it through the night, but I'm terrified of tomorrow. I've basically made a shambles of my life and alcohol played a big part in that. I've done some pretty stupid things recently. Things I'm ashamed of.
So the next few days, weeks and months will be difficult, but I imagine my life will improve every day I'm sober. I'm happy to be here. I'm hopeful.

Welcome Chrissy
The first post is one of the hardest. It took me years. You will also probably find that we all have a lot of shame and guilt bottled up. The great thing is that here people generally lean towards the side of love and acceptance rather than judgement.
Hope you stay awhile.

Hello and welcome. And congratulations on your decision to stop drinking.
I did a lot of things drunk that I'm ashamed of, too.
Really ashamed of.
But that's in the past now and I can't change it, nor would I wish to. I had to go through these things to learn the value of sobriety.
I hope you don't fear tomorrow too much. Look at the bright side, you'll be able to face it sober, whatever it may be.
Hope to hear from you and how it's going, so please keep posting.
And you're right, your life will improve every day you're sober.
Best to you.

It's wonderful to meet you, Chrissy. I'm so glad to hear you've gotten free of it & are beginning a new chapter.
We're here to support you when you feel discouraged. We understand what a huge adjustment you're making. You will grow stronger as time goes on. Be proud of reclaiming your life - things are going to get so much better.

Thank you all for the words of encouragement and understanding. As a 51 year old woman who has been drinking for the majority of her life it is scary but I'm so hopeful that the next 20 will be better.
Thank you all again for your beautiful words. I plan on sticking around for awhile.
Love to all

Welcome Chrissy
Hi Chrissy, I am new to SR and close to your age and am 60 days sober today. I am on a few other threads on SR but read other threads as well. I am finding the support and stories at SR to be very helpful and I try to check in every day: it helps to know I’m not alone in my recovery. Every day is a challenge for me but I am combining numerous tools and have gotten incredible insight from others on this site.
Wishing you a great day!

Glad you're here with us, Chrissy.
12 hours is no small deal when you have been drinking continuously (which I trust is the case).
I hope that you commit to and follow a plan of recovery.
Trying to do it on your own is something I sure wouldn't risk.
