Night out for birthday sober

And I had a good night. Went to dinner and a show with friends, most people drank, I didn’t and it was okay. I didn’t crave alcohol, or feel left out. A few of my heavy drinker friends went out to the bars after the show, and I headed home. I actually noticed how little most of my friends drank, one or two, and also went home after the show. It was nice to be present for conversations, to actually enjoy good food and desserts, to see the whole show without missing half getting drinks, and to wake up early and have a whole day ahead of me after a night out. Instead of a whole day hungover.

I was so fearful of life without alcohol, I’ve used it for so long to “enjoy” life, that I didn’t really think things could be enjoyable without it. To have these new experiences sober, where I’m having good times, is proving that fear so wrong.

Absolutely this. We don't realize how much we drink compared to others until we actually quit and go out with them. I went for brunch a few weeks ago and my friends had about one or two drinks each (If I were still a drinker, I'd have been holding my glass up every time the server walked past to get my refill) They then came to my house and set up video games. They did a shot each and clung to pretty much one drink for the rest of the night, all going home pretty damn sober. As a drinker I was completely unaware that they were all drinking so little compared to me.

Happy Birthday Kiki. And good news that you not only didn't drink but that you felt no urge (or were under pressure) to do so.

Glad you had a safe, fun time.

Happy birthday.

I would recommend against overdoing getting back into this activity and ease into it instead.

That's what I did and I have stayed sober.
