New to this

I just joined and posted on someones thread accidently. (sorry) Hello everyone. I have been sober for 13 days after 28 years of being a functioning alcoholic. I hit rock bottom. I was tired of the hiding. I've been in law enforcement for over 16 years and no one on the job or at home had a clue. I would wake every morning and say I am not going to drink tonight but at 1600 a 750 ml of Jager or 3 liters of wine would find its way into my life. I came clean to my ex-wife and made a doctors appt. He prescribed blood pressure meds(202/125) and 500 mg of Antabuse. I take the antabuse every morning when my will power is the strongest and know I can't drink for another 14 days. In my line of work i've seen the reaction of drinking on antabuse. The night sweats have gone and the tremors and moodiness. But I can't get my heart to stop racing. Any suggestions or knowledge of this symptom? Thank you for allowing me to join.

Welcome and I'm glad you've decided to stop drinking. 13 days of sobriety is fantastic. I'm glad most of your withdrawal symptoms have disappeared. However, you might want to check with your doctor about your heart racing after two weeks of not drinking.

Welcome to the family Samson! I'd also advise seeing your doctor about the racing heart. Congrats on 13 days sober! I hope our support can help you maintain your sobriety.

In Newcomers forum, every month starts a new 'class' for people getting clean and sober that month. All you have to do to join is post. It's good for getting support from others who are going thru the same thing you are.

Welcome Samson!
13 days is great!
My heart raced as well. Figured my body was so used to being tranquilized by alcohol it needed time to slow down without it.

I am 11 days sober and still on edge. The racing pulse is a common withdrawal symptom. The nervous system undergoes a rebound effect when the sedative effects of alcohol leave the system. It could take a few weeks to normalize depending on your level of alcohol consumption.

I am amazed you were able to hide your drinking for so long. I know Law enforcement has a drinking culture that make it hard to sober up.

Hello and welcome!
I have friends in law enforcement and they all drank like me. We're all sober now.
You can do it too and you've found a great place for support. So stick around
Glad you're here and look forward to hearing more from you.

Welcome Samson. SR has been a great resource for me. Many have guided me during my early recovery. When I have a question or concerns, I post here.

I am part of the January 2019 class. We share our experiences, past and current and encourage each other.

Hi and welcome Sampson

I think you really need to see a Dr for heart racing.
I found out I have tachycardia - it's easily controlled by meds

That's a lot of Jager, my friend! I could do 750ml of vodka with ease, but Jager....idk, I think I would struggle Congrats on your sobriety!
