It's my birthday
Hello. I think this is my first post?
I joined a while ago and love to lurk!
So today I am 35. I woke up without any alcohol in my system for the first time in...well...I too long. It's been a 2 - 3 bottle of wine a day habit that escalated to spirits a couple of years ago. I got off the spirits and had a month sober. Then the wine crept back in and then more wine and suddenly I was on up to 3 bottles per day beginning when then withdrawal began to set in which was up until recently about 11 am.
Anyway I have managed to see myself a long strict taper. Listened to my body very carefully and while the last few days i have had a glass or two in the evenings. I I dont think I needed them and as of today im confident enough to say that I can safely go for my Day 1
The fact it is my birthday is a great little way to start and fear not folks for I do not see birthdays as a reason to get drunk so it won't make it any more of a challenge. Every day was a day to get drunk and I dont have triggers other than the intense withdrawal driving me each and every day to make it all go away with that first drink.
Sorry for the long introduction there. I'm just excited to have gotten the really horrible first hurdle out of the way. I know there are plenty of obstacles to come and I'm probably on some pink cloud full of birthday cards and pressies but for now I'm going to enjoy it.
I hope to give and receive advice here

Happy belly button birthday, as some call it - our IRL one is special and then our first sober day is even better. I turned 40 sober for the first bday in years.
There are lots of resources on here to support you & I hope you make a plan to be completely sober, for good.
Take care and have a great sober bday.

What a great first post! Happy birthday and happy 1st sober day to you! Congratulations for making this big step. I too had escalated to about 3 bottles of wine per day, mixing in spirits too. I feel so much better sober. The withdrawal is horrible but it passes. Welcome and thank you for posting, you have inspired me today!
Welcome, and a huge HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU!!!
I quit in the last week of July last year, exactly one week before my 35th Birthday. I know a few people who quit around 34-35 too! I wish you the best of luck and many sober Birthdays ahead.

It's wonderful to have you with us, Blueflowers.
At 35 I was still many years away from seeing the light. All the needless chaos, destruction & misery! I'm so glad you won't have to suffer the way many of us have. Congratulations on your Day 1! Happy Birthday.

I'm not sure how to update original post. Maybe i can't because its my first?
Anyway thank you so much for the birthday wishes and encouragement! I made it through day 1. I didnt crave or fancy a drink but when i went to bed my heart rate was up a bit. Not dangerously. Around 84bpm which is about 20 above my normal/comfortably der the influence heartrate. I took some magnesium and saw it through. The night went well. No sweats or nightmares.
Here's to day 2.
Best of luck to all. We are fighting a fight worth winning here. It's life or death after all
