The Gilmerites....in memory of Gilmer
Gilmer was a long time member of SR who passed away recently.
This is a place to share your memories of Gilmer and the recovery she treasured so much.
D
I have many abiding memories of Gilmer - mostly the way she helped everyone tirelessly, and the way she *lived* her faith in a way many of us can't or don't- but two memories stand out.
One is from years back and the way she was so determined and desperate to be, and stay, a part of the community that she'd get up at 4am to use the free wifi at McDonalds...
and the other is only late last year when she was so pleased to make it to 59 birthdays and 5 years sober
She was tickled pink
We'd hoped for 60 and 6...but I'm sure Gilmer would say 'Gods will be done'.
I'm glad her posts will forever be around to help inspire & maybe sometimes tickle others, but...she is missed.
fare thee well my friend

OK...that made me smile.....I recall a lot of phonecalls in the beginning of our friendship when there would be .....silence.....and I would say can you hear me love? and she would say yes, but I can't understand a word you are saying....and she was too polite to say anything.....that was wow, October 2016.
I also loved that under that politeness was a wonderful cheeky personality.....

I am very thankful that Kathy was part of our July 13 class.
I'll always remember her for that great sense of humor and love for our Lord.
I'm thankful that we friended each other on the site.
I look forward to meeting her face to face some day.

If I could have one more conversation with her, I'd thank her for being such a shining example of empathy & kindness. I needed to be shown I wasn't as open minded as I thought. She impacted my life with her non-judgmental caring and wisdom. Her unique way of looking at things was a joy & a surprise. The essence of who she was as a person will live on, & I'll forever carry what I learned from her within me.
I didn't know Kathy all that well when she posted her diagnosis and started the different path thread. But man that news really hit me, as I'm sure it did many people. I didn't post much on a different path either but I lit a candle every morning and read every post. I got to know Kathy and see how much she is loved, admired and appreciated. The good ones always leave us too soon.
I didn't know her well, but she PM'd me a few times when I was curious about religion. She was always so very kind and willing to share her knowledge.
I remember her grace and calm acceptance when she posted about her diagnosis on her thread.
When did she pass? I am so sad to hear this. Just a couple of days ago, the thought of Kathy popped into my mind. I regret not staying more active on her thread. I was avoiding the sadness which was selfish of me.
I will always remember what a lovely person on SR she was.

Kathy had a good memory and once asked me how things that I shared a long time ago, had worked out . I told her God was taking His time with answers.
She said, as only Kathy could, "maybe you're just waiting for the answer you want to hear".
She was absolutely right, dang it.
Like PJ, I still talk to her. Her spirit will always live in my heart.
Thanks for this thread, Dee.

Gilmer was one of the first to welcome me on the 24 hour thread. Her words were always kind and inspirational. You never forget those who help you in your darkest times and I will not forget Gilmer.
