I'll be happy to celebrate Australia Day when they change the date, but thanks for the well wishes. It's nice to have a long weekend, such a crazy year already.

Happy day! I should have wished it to you sooner, but it took me a while to orient myself properly

Thank you. It's good to have a day to celebrate this awesome country. It's my adopted home and it's an amazing place to call home. A land of freedom and diversity.

But ...

Without judging other people's connection to this holiday, I will say I respect the feelings that many indigenous Australians have about this day, which to many is a day that celebrates a colonial invasion and the beginning of a cultural genocide.

So I'm taking up a suggestion I read which is to take a moment today to connect with the fact that most of us Australians benefit because of the loss that our indigenous brothers and sisters have suffered.

And today I am consciously acknowledging the traditional owners of the land on which I am lucky to live.

Peace to all Aussies. And everyone on SR.

Well, I deliberately chose my avatar to try and be inclusive today

I'd like the date changed too to a day that means something positive and meaningful for all Australians rather than just first European settlement - maybe it will happen in my lifetime maybe not - but today here on SR I really just want to wish everyone a happy sober and good long weekend.

HAPPY AUSTRALIA DAY!

and Happy Birthday SnoozyQ!

Best wishes to my uncle who claims he lives in the worst town in Australia (FYI he lives in Cooktown) I have never visited Oz, something I really should rectify.

I'm listening to AC/DC right now to celebrate! High Voltage album to be specific, historically underrated I'd say.
