4 months, finally feeling some normalcy
4 months, finally feeling some normalcy
I like to check in on here and document my sobriety. I just hit 4 months. Sobriety is feeling more normal, so to speak, for me lately. I can go into stores without feeling the panic of the liquor isle. I’ve turned down drinks, without the world stopping. My new routines have become actual routines, not just substitutions or distractions to not drink. I am not in a constant battle with my AV about not drinking, the cravings and thoughts still come, but it seems easier to move past quickly. I’ve also really truly felt that I can stay sober the rest of my life, that it is possible. I can’t say that I’ve ever fully accepted that in my previous attempts to quit. My recovery plan has also become a new normal. Meetings, gratitude, 12 step work, SR, recovery podcasts, they are all worked into my daily life now. I’m grateful to be sober today.
Congratulations on four months, that's awesome.
Sounds like you're doing all the right things.
The new normal is sure better than the old, isn't it.
With your new routine it will become the new normal soon enough.
Keep it up!

That is really amazing to hear. Here I have 18 days and went to my first meeting for this round of Sobriety And the acceptance is definitely the hardest part but I do feel for once that posting on here on a very regular daily basis and going to at least one meeting a week and trying to slowly incrementally but shortly to incorporate the principles of the step work into my daily life could be a reality for me. So it was really nice to hear someone that is way ahead of me that it is working for them. When the road gets tough I need these reminders very frequently.
Thank you guys. Its good to look back on SR to see the progress. It’s amazing how things change from month to month, week to week, even day to day. But truly, each day of sobriety has been better than any day while drinking. I’m starting to see why people say they are finally free in sobriety, each day I feel it more and more.

It is indeed amazing how things change with our work and determination and getting help from multiple sources, IME. One thing that makes "each day better" as you are finding is the clarity with which I began to handle them. That brings a ton of freedom.
Keep going- and updating us! These new habits and normal you are finding keep leading me on a good path, too.
