Hi all
Hey all
Newbie here! Thought I would say hi. Never really been on a forum before so bare with me!
Obviously we are all here for the same reason. Reached the end of the alcohol road and had enough of it now. Doing me zero favours and the body says no more. Have another couple of health issues (non alcohol related) that mean I shouldn't really drink but you know the drill....lost my dad last year and it escalated to silly levels pretty fast. Been in this position before, tapered successfully, had months off, but the devil says you can handle 4 cans tonight out the blue. But that's not enough and goes up quick, sure most have been there. Would love that happiness being off the alcohol back again.
Anyway I'm from bonnie Scotland, have 4 girls who I would like to see grow up and hope to be on here when I can, make some like minded friends and offer support if at all possible! Just don't mention Andy Murray retiring, it's still too raw.
Thanks for looking / listening!

Welcome GM28. You will definitely find the things you mention here.
Health, family are biggest reasons I am getting sober. Time passes too quickly to miss out in a haze. Once I quit, many of my ailments faded with it too. I'm 48 and finally feeling healthy and alive again after 3 months without alcohol.
Plenty of support here. The rest is up to you.

GM,
Glad to see you joining this forum. It is chock full of experiences and and wisdom, which can be very helpful as you navigate this journey towards a better life.
My biggest regret is that I waited so long to change my life. My children grew up with a drinking mom. Time went by and they are now adults. They are alcoholics. (Lots for me to work on here.)
Don't wait. Show your family, by your actions, that you care enough about them to take care of yourself. Give yourself the gift of sobriety. It will be the best gift you can ever give yourself and your family. Peace to you.

Sorry about Andy, GM. Very glad to meet you & have you join our family.
I drank 30 yrs. & when I joined SR I had little hope of actually getting sober forever. After posting & reading for awhile, I found the courage to change my life. I let go of alcohol as a crutch & coping tool. It never once helped me, only created misery & anxiety. We don't need it!
