12 Tips for Sober Holidays

it`s that time again for the 12 tips for staying sober over the upcoming holidays. From the AA Grapevine publication,Box 459
pass these on

12 Tips for Sober Holidays

Line up extra AA activities (help on the phones, speak, empty the ashtrays).
Be host to friends, especially newcomers, at home or at a coffee shop.
Keep your AA telephone list with you at all times.
Find out about holiday meetings or celebrations in your local groups.
Skip any drinking occasions you're nervous about.
If there's one you can't skip, take an AA friend--or keep candy handy.
Don't think you have to stay late (plan an "important date" in advance).
Go to church. Any church. And don't forget about extra meetings.
Don't sit around brooding; catch up on reading, museums, walks, letters.
Don't project about holiday temptations: remember "One day at a time."
Even if you cannot give material gifts, enjoy the beauty of holiday love.
Carry the message. Give the joy away, and it will be yours to keep.

I have another one --- a better one (IMO )

As of today, it's only December 1st, in other words 24 days until the next holiday. That gives one more than enough time to get through the first 8 steps, make a beginning on 9, and begin putting into practice steps 10-12 which, as we all know, will produce for anyone who does it exactly what it's produced for the past 90+ years --> RECOVERY FROM ALCOHOLISM.

Great post!

Great post! To which I'd add just beware of getting into a situation of 'the tail is wagging the dog' and don't try to be all things to all men, your own sobriety comes first!

Christmas is for one day, sobriety is for a lifetime, so keep things in perspective..

Meetings, Meetings, Meetings

If you will be travelling, to relatives or otherwise, line up some local meetings before you go. New meetings make any holiday, not just Christmas, more enjoyable.
Enjoy the fellowship.
Enjoy your sobriety.
