struggling in life. day 18

Hey guys,

Ended up quitting my retail sales job 3 days in because I couldn't handle it. I knew I had made a huge mistake.

My confidence is at an all time low. Winter is coming and I'm feeling incredibly down right now.

Not even sure what other job to look for. The pressure is high and I'm tired of myself and tired of disappointing my parents. I want to go out and drink but I know it won't help. After years of substance abuse I don't even know who I am anymore.

I'm not sure how I'm going to survive.

It's okay to quit a job that is overwhelming or that doesn't fit for whatever reason. Jobs come and go. You made a decision, now you have the opportunity of finding something different. Retail is pretty hard right before Christmas, but retail isn't always that hard.

Go out and get another one. There are plenty of jobs, what's done is done. Look forward and don't pick up a drink or drugs.

I wonder if it's the timing, pre-Christmas, that put you off retail? Or maybe try something else that you've been thinking about? The main thing is to not be down on yourself because the job didn't work out. And, congratulations on Day 18.

A job is just a job. Please don't let it define you. The job doesn't matter, your life does.

I am sorry you are struggling, it does take time to heal!

While I was in my addiction and early on in recovery I too thought the same thing "I don't even know who I am"
As my sobriety went on I had an ahh haaa moment.

I am who I am. I am creating myself every single day.
I have morals, values, respect, wants, charitable, loving, caring etc...
I am going to base my attitude and self off of these things.
It helped me focus on the day, and not live in the past
I am finding myself to be a better person.

Enjoy creating who you are today

Blessings,
DC

Darkling Song is right a job is just a job. Your sobriety is a golden ticket to a window of opportunity beyond your wildest dreams. Don't settle. : ) I recently went through a couple of job changes. I had to be honest with what i truly wanted. The first job my boss was a d-bag, the second job was in the wrong location and my current job has everything i need. A great boss and location.
Hope you find it!
