i'm on day 7 today. its my 26th birthday as well.
i am grateful for what i have even if it isn't a lot. other people my age are married, making 6 figures but that's not me and i'm fine with it.
comparing myself to who i was at 19, 21, 23 i am better. more confident, can get jobs easily (tougher to keep them) but this addiction problem is still lingering and its apparent that it will be with me forever.
i've been blessed. but its obvious that god wants to see me work to realize my full potential.
i'm excited to see what a sober future holds. one day at a time, one minute at a time if i need to. i'm really living that maxim now.
thanks for reading. i will stick around this community as long as i live.

Happy birthday and congrats on day 7! You are so young. There’s so much ahead of you in life. Your life will be so much better if you stay sober! There will always be problems whether you drink or not. But when you feel happy, you will feel more intense happiness when you are sober. And you will remember it. When you face problems you will manage them better sober. Trust me. I’m in my 50’s now and didn’t get sober until a couple years ago.
Yes, many people your age are married making a lot of money. But many of those same people won’t be married and will experience a lot of loss 20 years from now. And there are those who will not marry until later in life and those who will remain single, those who will not have children, and those who make little money but love what they do. There are so many paths in life. No path is better than another. But each one is better sober.
Recovery is a life time journey. But addiction doesn’t need to be.
Hope to see you around here. I will come here every day no matter how long I am sober.

i got a new job selling phones and will start this week. my plan is to work there for the next few months and give myself some time to recover. keeping expectations fairly low for now. have some catching up to do. reaping the consequences of my actions unfortunately. i could be so much farther ahead its ridiculous. but on the other hand, things could be much worse too.
