Gabapentin for sleep?

I have been sober (73 days off of Booze.)

I am not sleeping straight through the night?

I fall asleep easily, wake up after an hour then throughout the night several times.

Gabapentin has been recommended for a sleep aid ?

I have tried, over the counter sleep aids, and nature sleep aids, no success?

What are your thought regarding Gabapentin usage for sleep ?

Hi Springforward,

we can share our experience, but the problem is there's absolutely no guarantee that what worked for us will work or even be suitable for you,

We have no idea about your medical history or general level of health or whether this pattern is new or ingrained or what other factors like coffee cigarettes, computer screens or whatever els emight be influencing it.

This is your second thread looking for help with sleep and experience with a particular drug, I really suggest you see your Dr, or get a referral to a sleep clinic or something like that.

Not sure where the recommendation came from.

If it is indeed your doctor that's recommended gabapentin - whats holding you back from following their advice?

D

I don't know how long my irregular sleep, much as described by you, is going to persist. To deal with it I get up when I wake, do something for a while, and then I go back to sleep. Repeat. On occasion I find I'm tired in the afternoon, but I have adjusted my lunch diet to be lighter to help avoid feeling fatigued. It doesn't bother me much any more that I sleep differently than I used to, and I don't take OTC medications that tend to make me groggy to overcome it. In fact, I have available to me a prescription but have elected not to use it. Presently I am going to wait and see how my body and mind work over time to set a pattern that will be fine for me.

Sleep issues were one of the reasons I started drinking heavy at night. Over time I realized that I was not sleeping, but passed out. I take some OTC stuff that helps put me to sleep, but still do not sleep great. I just deal with it. Coffee helps.

Everyone is different. Gabapentin does nothing for me. Those were some giant pill bottles with some big pills. I was taking 600mgs 3x a day I was on a lot of meds for pain at that time.
