Two Years

Today marks two years of continued sobriety. 730 days ago I woke up with my typical hangover, though one that wasn't "so bad" since I had "only" had some beer and wine. Classic case of denial.

Nov. 1 2016 was just a typical day. I didn't wake up and say "this is it!", I just said, I don't want to drink again today. Of course, as we're all familiar, by 5pm that tune had changed. I remember literally fighting with myself in my car, on the way to the store to buy wine. Thankfully, I talked myself out of the wine for that night.

But after a couple days of not drinking, I decided to really get involved in SR. I also bought the book The Naked Mind, Control Alcohol. This book was the turning point for me. No, it's not a magic bullet, but the author wrote and spoke in a style that really resonated with me, and allowed me to see booze for what it is: poison.

Long story short...day by day, bit by bit, my head cleared, and I was able to pour more and more of myself into recovery. SR, books, youtube, podcasts, exercise, walking, cooking, meditation, yoga, and being completely HONEST with myself, and eventually my closest friends.

And now, here we are, two years later. I wanted to post this, because I know there is someone out there who is waking up today, just like I did two years ago, wanting to change, but scared to start. YOU can do this. You can change the course of your life. It is scary, and difficult, and challenging, but worth it.

As the saying goes, nothing changes if nothing changes. Boy is that true. If you want to become sober, you must make changes to your life and lifestyle. New hobbies, new food, new friends even. It must be done, but you'll be so much happier on the flip side.

thanks SR. I don't post much, but I read all the time, and this group helped to make me feel normal, and accepted, and even loved.

Congratulations on 2 years. Things for me went similar. I have found that once drinking becomes absolute nonsense for me internalized, then no doing it became easy.
