Unexpected chances to talk to DS
Sometimes it amazes me the opportunities that open the door for discussion, without me having to push the door.
On the way to school today, we got to listen to a story on NPR by Shankar Vendantam (Hidden Brain podcast). It was "Social Stigma Is One Reason the Opioid Crisis is Hard to Confront." Most mornings on the way to school, DS is still mostly asleep. Today, I was surprised to have him start talking after the story finished.
It turns out that Shankar Vendantam is on DS's podcast list that he listens to as he plays computer games. He brought up points from the "Life, Death and the Lazarus Drug: Confronting America's Opioid Crisis." (He didn't remember the story name, but I went looking as soon as I got in to the office.)
He's still not ready to talk about his dad, but we had a good, if quick, talk about personal responsibility with some ties into stigma and why people might start using.
