A bit of help today please
See below from the September group I am part of. As predicted I am beginning to think ‘You’re owed a drink today’ so, following my plan, I’m posting for support!!
i’ll talk you through my previous slip for my benefit! - as it happened after the same meeting as I have today (sept 12th?). I had a Directors meeting like today and it was good, but during the morning my mind kept turning to ‘You deserve a drink after this’. I was busy and allowed the thought to fester, crucially I didn’t put anything into place because I’d decided to act on the thought. Then at 4.30 I suggested the pub and I’ve spent a month recovering from it.
Today if those thoughts come I’m going to excuse myself briefly to have a quick meditate, or post on here. Or go for a quick walk. I’m going to eat well at lunch time. Ive got cake for later in afternoon if I feel risky. Ive told everyone I’m not drinking today. Ive got a meeting at 8 I need to drive to.

I use exercise as an alternative euphoria method.
That might be what is missing from your plan.
The cake is a great idea too. Sweets trick the brain.
I alternate cardio and weights 4 to 7 times a week. When I miss workouts I feel down.

If you follow thru your plan for today,
doing the footwork, not allowing anything
or anyone to distract you and it, then,
you will end this day sober.
Fill each day with purpose and responsibility
on you recovery program and life then there
should be no room for alcohol to enter it. Right?
After you go to ur meeting, come back and
share how it was. And share as often as you
can learning new healthier ways to fill each
day as you build a strong solid continuous recovery
foundation to live your life upon moving forward.

but if you look at your life and whats drinkings bought to it, the last thing any of us deserves is a drink Ben

Agree with Dee. No one “deserves”a drink. It’s interesting how alcohol tricks our mind that way, to say we deserve something that only makes us feel worse about ourselves and brings problems.

Accept the craving but don't act on it. Laugh at your AV as it's powerless over you.
Some distraction will pass the time, exercise can make it easier to go to be early if your mind just won't shut up about it.
I always remind my AV I'm never going to drink again ever when it tries telling me I need a drink because of reason X.

Thanks guys, I feel a bit emotional in my gratitude. No dramas any more
It is very liberating to have cravings when you are confirmed as a non drinker, it means I have to work with them in new ways rather than simply give in to them. It takes some thought, planning and commitment but it is very free-ing

Yes, this is so true, and it's how you will continue to recover. Each time you get through a difficult day like today, it will make it easier for the next time. You can do this!
