29 days.

I’m loving the new sober life, but I’m so tired all the time at day 29. Is this normal?

Very normal. Your body is adjusting. Your brain, in particular, is finding its new normal. I recommend exercise. It doesn't need to be vigorous, but moderate exercise every day can do wonders.

Thanks, soberandhonest. Great advice. I’m going to force myself to incorporate some exercise this week. At least I’m having no problems with insomnia!

I was absolutely exhausted for a few months, Tarpaulin. We've beaten ourselves up rather badly.

Congrats on your 29 days - that's wonderful.

Congratulations on your one month!

I spent a lot of time in bed —a LOT of time in bed. Almost to the point where I thought I was going crazy, and my mind was all over the place besides thinking of a drink about every 20 seconds .

For me, I guess I needed to spend some time with myself and by myself, just to start loving whom I was becoming . Exhausting.

It got LOTS better about day 100. I know that sounds like a long way off, but believe me, I know you can do it

Glad you are on board

Congrats! I was exhausted too. My emotions were all over the place. It took 3-4 months for things to really balance out. As soberhonest posted, exercise is really important. It will help you release toxins, get that blood pumping and get those natural feel good chemicals in your brain working to elevate your mood and energy. For me, a combination of sprint and distance running and hot yoga was really helpful. Find something that works for you

Congratulations on 29 days. Yes, fatigue is very normal. Excercise is good for you but at the same time you make sure you get enough rest, because your body and your brain are still having a hard time.

Awesome work! Like others said, I was exhausted and simply depleted in every way.

Staying sober and making better and better choices around everything from food to taking naps to AA meetings (my program of choice)....all of it built a new life.

Keep going!

Thanks guys. All such excellent advice and so reassuring to know I’m not alone. I’ve started a healthy eating programme already. I’m wondering if this, together with the shock of quitting drink, could be causing even more bodily and mental adjustments to be required.

I did some yoga this morning and I feel so much more energised as a result. 2/3pm is usually my absolute worst time if the day for a slump so I’m taking a late lunch and leaving work to hit the treadmill - even if I only manage a 10 min run. I’m hoping it will kick my body into gear. Also I’ve probably been depending on coffee way too much - another addiction I suppose!!

Wow Tarpaulin you are doing great! Taking things in your hands - love it.

I have the same thing, as soon as I eat lunch my productivity drops to zero and all I want is to take a nap. Reducing my SSRI medication makes it even worse. I woke up today 5:30 AM so I could do all my things till noon and then just drift away till I can go home.
