‘It’ finally happened to me too....

I’ve struggled with the ‘wash, rinse, repeat’ most of my adult life.

The ‘drink too much/again, say to self ‘I’ll control it/quit’, drink too much/again’.

The broken promises to myself. The self loathing as conditioner to keep drinking.

I found SR this spring, and got a great welcome. I only lurked for a couple weeks before I jumped in, scared....of failure....of success....of rejection.

I even washed, rinsed for 10 days in May.

Earlier this month ‘it’ kind of sort of happened to me .

Today I really recognized ‘it’ as happening for real.

I didn’t think ‘it’ would happen to me, that ‘it’ only happened to a chosen few.

What is ‘it’, then?

I didn’t think about using alcohol as a response to a real stressful situation!!!!

Like a tea Totaler wouldn’t! Like a non drinker wouldn’t! Like a non addict wouldn’t !

You know how that feels? ‘It’ feels Effing GREAT!!!!!!

Wanna know how ‘it’ feels? Haven’t felt ‘it’ yet?

Stick with your plan.

Stick with SR.

Know the concept is simple yet initially difficult.

Know that no ‘thing’ can do ‘it’ for you, you must REALLY want ‘it’.

‘It’ DOES happen......(thank you all the SR elders for telling us so)

You can have ‘it’ too,

Increasing Freedom from the chains.....

Thank you SR

I only hoped ‘it’ would happen.

And now that it did, I know in my heart, that those moments will become more and more prominent in my life, the pride I feel taking care of me, of not losing face to myself in the mirror is priceless.

I will not give that feeling of freedom up.

Awesome free! Best. Feeling. Ever.

Also... along the same lines- when you pass a store or section of a store that you typically bought alcohol- and ‘it’ happens there. You realized you didn’t think about buying.

No internal conflict or negotiation. You just walk or drive by and continue in with your day.

It truly is amazing when ‘it’ starts happening.

Thanks for sharing free!!!

I recently had to let my old dog go, and there were no thoughts of drinking over it. He had only known me sober and I didn't want to dishonor him by drinking.

Thanks to all of you here on SR!

Going to bed at 23:21, blisters on fingers from changing my deadbolt lock from garage into house, took 3 hours!!

Have a whole new appreciation for the guys out there doing an ‘easy DIY project’

I bet the whole time you were shaking your head and rolling your eyes at him.

Great work, well done.

I feel more freedom overall everyday from my addiction. Just beginning to see past the haziness, beginning to see the raw part of the wasted time and dangerous behavior.

Feeling it. Owning it. And forgiving myself in order to move forward.

Great job Free
It does get better and better with time.
If it ever happens that it comes up that you think about going back out, don't just play the tape forward, but remember this moment and how good it feels.
