You start by stopping drinking. Then you need to make sure you get through the withdrawals, which means you need a plan. Early sobriety isn't going to be fun, so you need to be prepared. You are possibly going to feel fatigued for a long time, there's probably going to be shakes and insomnia. Most likely you'll feel a drink would make you feel better.
So you need to make sure that whatever happens, you do not drink. Some people try AA, some people avoid social situations that would probably lead to drinking, some people start meditation. Accountability can be very important. You need to do whatever keeps you sober. Good luck!

In my experience, making the decision to clean up is the start. Then I accept that I am going to have a rough week ahead as I detox. No sleep and constant anxiety are my biggest challenges. I avoid going out in public as much as possible and just wait it out. I stay hydrated and eat when I can. By day 3, the worst is usually over for me and I start to feel normal.
I am on day 10 right now and feel pretty good. Maintaining this sobriety is now my focus

Nic,
I ate when I craved. I worked out during my usual drinking time. Sugar tricks the brain.
I suffered a bunch in the early days.
Now I see all my real strengths and weaknesses.
It is a real roller coaster.
Sr saved my life.
Thanks.
