Sleep

I'm almost 6 months sober and what is the best thing about sobriety so far? Sleep, real restful sleep. I never realize that I was a zombie for years. I know that doesn't read as good as "I can't believe how much my life has changed and my problems have melted away since I gave up drinking"....ect ect but for me it's just awesome

159 days sober-I have terrible insomnia and it's driving me crazy.

I can't believe how much my life has changed and my problems have melted away since I gave up drinking".

Frankly I think the folks that experience this are far fewer than those of us that just enjoy some simple, but HUGE, improvements in life.

At first the stuff that normal people experience (like not puking in the morning) seem soooo amazing. And they are. Then it becomes normal. But hey, I will never tire of restful, peaceful mornings! Absolutely my favorite time of day.

Congrats on 6 months

That is a great book! Fascinating how sleep impacts literally everything as far as our bodies go. I’m on day 12 here and while there have been a few days of insomnia, overall my rest (and dreaming) has taken a positive turn.

Couldn’t agree more. Sleep is up there at the top of my sober list too! Congrats!

Am with you there! I literally love going to bed. I always have a hot shower and take off my make up and put cream on and brush my teeth (not things I always did when drinking!) And then snuggle up. It sure beats passing out in clothes and make up, then waking at 3am with stale wine breath. Ugh. I never ever want to experience that again and the good news is I don't have to !!

Someone posted the other day something like... ‘What good things came out of you drinking’? I thought what a stupid thing to ask

Then I see this. Where else in the modern world would you see people from various continents being so happy about sleep?!?!

I’m the same. When I am sober the best part of the day is going to bed, sober, listening to the radio or reading, drifting off. Waking up non sweaty and revitalised. It’s like heaven

Now don’t get me started on food....

When I detoxed I went literally 5 days without a wink of sleep. I finally had to go to the doctor and get a sedative. It worked and I haven't refilled the prescription. I don't know how I went for years without real sleep.
