Introduction
Hello SoberRecovery Community,
I am an alcoholic. I have a drinking problem. Every evening, I look forward to “taking the edge off”. Before dinner, buzzed and relaxed by dinner, “confident and stress free”. This is what my body tells itself... it lies! But, my mind, heart and soul does not want this domination of the bottle over myself.
Tonight, I did not drink. I actually signed up here a couple days ago before posting for the first time now. Having read many of your posts and the string of days, months, years you have kept away from the bottle, I commend each of you and am a sincere admirer for what you have and continue to accomplish.
No drink, no buzz but plenty of anxiety here and hope I can sleep. I am full of stress and anxiety which I know has been exacerbated by my drinking. For now, I remain grateful, humbled, and prayerful.
Thank you all for providing me a forum to say that I am an alcoholic, I have a drinking problem, and in my heart, I want to change.

Welcome to SR. You'll find a lot of encouragement and empathy here. Congratulate yourself on realizing that you and alcohol have an unhealthy relationship and on doing without tonight. Good for you!

Wow! What a profound and honest statement. I applaud you. We should all be so honest. As I hope I can be.

Support to you as you embark on a new
chapter in your life listening, learning,
absorbing and applying all there is to
know about addiction, it's affects on
your own mind, body and soul, as well
a program of recovery as a guideline
to incorporate continuously in all areas
of your life to achieve health, happiness
and honesty like so many of us have.

Hey there Bill. Please do come and join us in the September group. We can get to know each other better in a smaller group, and support each other. I find it also helps in these early days to have an 'accountabilty' group to check in with each day.
