4 weeks

Day 28 has commenced and I have been here before and the experience of my previous quits has helped me this last 4 weeks. I knew exactly what to expect and how I would feel. I am not encouraging relapses, but as taught in SMART recovery they are commonly part of the process and practice makes perfect.

Moving to counting in months again is a meaningful step and I look forward to when I can count in years.

This is going to be a psychological journey and as scientist/engineer I feel comfortable in that process. The harder part is the spiritual part and where I may have to suspend my belief.

I baulk at the thought of prayer. Only yesterday someone told me you don't need to be religious to pray. I am not content with my negative mindset and want to change it.

One thought on AA. Many people criticise it saying it has big failure rate. That may well be on the case just counting the millions who initially walk through the doors. However, success with AA does not seem to be about chance, it is 90% plus for those that actually implement the programme.

Congrats on 4 weeks Gerard

If 'meditation' or' introspection' make more sense to you than 'prayer' why not think of it that way?

As for statistics the only one than I'm interested in is the one that says I'm 100% sober today

Great stuff Gerard
Maybe instead of prayer talk positive encouragement to yourself.
Chant ‘I think I can, I know I can’ a few times over.
It still sounds a bit crazy lol.
I’m with you on the prayer side of things, can’t get my head round it.
Relaxation and getting my mind and body back as one works for me. ( not sure if that’s meditation)

Congrats on your first month. Breathing mindfully & meditation might be an option if prayer disagrees with you right now.

My suggestion would be to try prayer.

Just try it.

Nice job on 4 weeks. I think things start to really change for the better in this stretch.

To me, non-religious etc, prayer can be seen as a kind of impactful self-talk. I can't imagine it being anything other than a good thing, though I don't practice it.

Keep it moving and keep posting, good to see you here still.
