18 Months!

Today marks 18 months of freedom for me

My first year was pretty much just not drinking.

In the second year I'm becoming me again and every day gets better and better. Somewhere around the 13 month mark it was like a breath of fresh air hit me and I just felt good. My mind no longer obsesses over the fact that I can't have a drink. I can go to work and not fret over the fact that I'm at a bar making a living selling booze (and lots of great food).

A huge part of this for me was just learning to be sober, it's actually not that bad no matter what my AV tries to tell me!

I spent most of my life intoxicated it was the only thing I knew. It's really not boring to enjoy the pool without a beer! These days the only thing that really triggers me is anger but it never takes long to realize drinking at the problem isn't going to help anything or show anybody.

Sober Recovery has been my only support. I've done a lot of reading here and on the internet. I did read the Big Book last year.

Thanks everybody! 2 years is just around the corner and I feel really confident in my sobriety now.

Thank you so much everybody.

To those starting out, I just want to say hang in there it really does get better.

The first 12 months was pretty much hell for me. It was all I could do to keep my head down and just fight through. It took me a long time to even start to feel good.

So much has changed in the last six months it's hard to put to words. It's been a big breath of fresh air.

I know I can't let my guard down, but I don't want to!

Congrats and thank you for sharing! I am reading the Big Book now. I am triggered by anger too but learning the same as you that drinking away my anger or problems just made everything worse. It feels good to get through the anger and problems sober and see how far you’ve come. Yay!
