If you're visiting this thread, it's okay, and healthy, to be brave, take a step forward, write out three good things about ourselves. We don't need to feel them. Step back from our own feelings, if we need to, and take a look from a distance. Do you cook? Are you a good student, parent, employee or boss? In those things are good, tangible qualities. Tooting our own horn is important in overcoming this family disease of alcoholism.

This was super helpful to look at my traits when I was freaking out yesterday over the idea of asking for help.
I'm courageous. From all I've been through and continuing to move forward, courageous is a word I've heard used many times in recovery. When I step back and look at my actions, I know I'm courageous. Courage is found in stepping up and breaking free from the expected, compliant, doormat behavior I was taught. I've found it in walking away from a fight. In calling the police for help. In being willing to give up dysfunctional relationships.
"You gain strength, courage and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. – Eleanor Roosevelt"
Searching for three more good traits, these resonate with me:
1. Self-assurance:
Every road to success is filled with people who will find any reason to give you why it won’t work.
You need a healthy level of self assurance that gives you a practical (sometime impractical) sense of faith in your cause that drives you forward with no excuses, roadblocks or negativity holding you back
2. Creative:
Like many skills and traits, being creative can be learned and practiced.
Go out of your way to explore new experiences, learn new things and practice open mindedness.
3. Intuition:
Learn to trust your gut instincts.
I have these traits and I'm working on strengthening them.
