Frustrated

Hi I’m 5 years in recovery with a relapse 1 year ago. My adult daughter has been extremely effected by it. And I understand. Yet she always is in fear of me using to the point of her lashing out saying mean things. Then we don’t talk for awhile and on it goes. She won’t seek any kind of treatment for herself to deal with the past and suffers extreme anxiety and depression. It’s so hard

Thats tough.

Perhaps you could get her a copy of the al-anon or ACOA Handbook so she can read about recovery for herself?

Welcome!

I hope your daughter will decide to seek support for herself with a therapist or at AlAnon.

Congratulations on your recovery.

Just wondering Dalby, are you getting support anywhere for your sobriety (AA or similar?) I know one of my AA friends daughters comes along to the monthly open AA meeting and this has been helpful to her. She knows her mum is doing what she can, knows her mum's sponsor and friends in recovery, etc.

Hey Dalby
I hear ya. Addiction is a family disease they say.
Either your daughter has our disease and is fighting her own battle, or she has no idea, we can't do much except be sober and LOVE. I haven't had a drink for 10 years and every day I am making living amends to my children by staying off the grog, loving them actively, and allowing them to react they way they that do with compassion. Al Anon is such a great organisation but it's not what most people want to do.
If you meditate on peace and compassion at least you won't tend to react too much to your daughters issues.
