Trying Again

I am 36 years old and have attempted quitting hundreds of times, but it never stuck longer than 6 weeks or the longest was when I was pregnant. No body would ever guess I have this problem. I feel ashamed of myself that I can't get a hold of this. I have realized I can never drink again it always ends up where things get more and more out of control. This past Saturdays binge left me with an angry husband and another morning of regret. Today is Day 3 for me. I need to be done drinking for good this time.

Hi Firefly. Welcome. You'll find lots of support here. I'm 42 and in a similar boat.

Good to meet you, Firefly.

At 36 I knew I was headed for trouble - but I refused to admit I couldn't control it. Many years later I was in a huge mess of my own creation. My life was upside down & it was very difficult to dig my way out. You are doing a wonderful thing for yourself. You'll never have the regrets many of us do. You're never alone - there's always someone here to listen & care.

You can do it, Firefly.

I am hoping you have an easy time of staying sober! Or if you don't, you do it anyway. I wish I had quit when I was younger. I knew I had a problem, too, but kept doing the 'one more time' thing. That went on for years. I actually had two years once. They were the best two years! I want the next two to be even better. I have 20 days today, and feel so good! I am still having some moments of wishing I could drink, but they pale in comparison to that next day craving.
I am pulling for you! Post here often so we can be a help to you.
