Newly sober. Just joined.

Hi. I googled what to expect on 5th day of sobriety as each day has been different so far. Sleep has been difficult, sweats, cravings, etc. I found this in my search results, so thanks for being here. It's good to have another way to connect to people who share or have overcome the struggle with alcohol.

Hello and welcome. I'm glad you found us. You'll find a lot of support here.
As to what to expect, everyone is different. But for me, after four days I had mostly recovered fro my latest binge.

You don't say how much you drank or for how long.
I turned into a daily drinker and couldn't imagine stopping. I was afraid to because I knew what awaited me; the fear, anxiety and regret. It was awful.

Congratulations on you're decision to quit. And I wish you the best.

Deb,

I had no idea the amount of damage I had done to my body and brain until I decided to really learn.

This site and the internet saved me.

The crave is for life. It is chronic. The brain damage is irreversible.

Each relapse causes more and more insanity. Eventually, we stay crazy.

There is no getting out after too many relapses.

Knowledge and the desire to quit are what have gotten me this far.

Thanks.

Hello. I started drinking almost daily at 30 (52 now - long time). I have been trying to "manage" my drinking in different ways for the last 3 years. I've admitted a problem to myself that long ago. This time I quit with a different mindset. I am not trying something, I'm quitting. Day 7 today. When I think about having "a glass" of wine I am forcing myself to see it through to the end I have proven over and over it will really be, two bottles later ( or more on the weekend when I could get an earlier start) hungover and ashamed, etc. So far that helps.

Glad you are here! I too was very sick when I quit and it took plenty of time to heal. While each of us have different experiences with that process, we can relate to each other a lot! Keep going!
