Newbie here.

Hi! Usually I'm a lurker not a poster, but I need help! I joined this site in hopes to meet wise people who have overcome the the addiction of alcohol. I'm trying to avoid treatment, mainly for $$ reasons. I know I have a problem with my alchohol consumption, but I'm having a hard time saying NO more to this poison.

Thank you for reading my post.

Welcome Free

You'll find a wealth of support here - just wondering tho - have you considered something like AA or some other meeting based group like SMART Recovery or LifeRing?

they're free?

Yes, I went to my first Celebrate Recovery meeting last Thursday, and I'm going to attend my first AA meeting tomorrow at 10am or Sunday at 6pm. I promised myself I would go. I've been listening to online podcasts every day on AA meetings/testimonies. I'm anxious

Welcome to the family. I hope the support you find here, and in real life, can help you get sober for good.

Sounds like you have an excellent plan of attack. Being committed to the AA meetings will change your life. Be proud of yourself for making this life changing decision and focus hard on one day at a time.

Thank you! I'm trying to have a good plan of attack, but now I have to plan a quit date, which scares me to death! I've been drinking every day for the last two/three months so I'm scared to find out if my dependence is physically or mentally, or both!

I agree! One of my reasons (I think) for drinking is because of loneliness and isolation. It's good to know that my soon to be sobriety, I will not be alone!
