How long does it take to get thinking right
Greetings, hope all finds you well...
I have been sober 44 days, after many years of everyday heavy drinking.
I still feel cloudy mentally, short term memory issues, not sleeping well, headaches, body aches.
I am not overly motivated, seem to be depressed.
I have been thinking about drinking the last 5 days, its crazy to think about drinking knowing that its toxic and kills the body slowly.
I am taking it day by day, easy does it, asking god to lead my path.
How long has it taken you to feel better, physical, mentally, emotionally, spiritually?
What are your thoughts?

It took me between 3 to 6 months sober before I felt 'right'. But I started feeling better and better and lost the desire to drink. Coincidentally, it was around 3 months sober that I started practicing gratitude every day. It made a big difference in my recovery, and, in my whole attitude.
It took me about 3 months although it seems to take others a lot sooner. I think we underestimate the toll it take son our mind and body drinking/druggling like we did.
Try and be patient, be kind to yourself...it will get better

It was a few months before I felt comfortable in my skin, but even in the early days the small gains were appreciated. There are some days when all you can do is eat and bathe and cash out early, and that's okay.

I was a dire case of almost dead alcoholism. As in, the dr I finally listened to gave me a year, 18 mo if I didn't quit.
For me, I felt a first solid leap forward in the 5-6 mo category people have mentioned. Which seemed significant for its own merit, yet nothing like the calm and better emotional (not to mention physical) health I had about 13 months. Ups and downs not as dramatic for sure. Aphasia and forgetfulness gone or much improved.
Year two saw continuing overall progress. Here in year three, I feel strong, capable, and have tools to "right myself" when that emotional sobriety shifts, as it did for a week or two, a couple weeks ago.
The only way I know to keep getting better in every way is to stay sober.
You can do it.

I'm at 110 days and the bad days still outweigh the good ones. Brain fog, anxiety, light headed, etc. I'll get moments of clarity every now and then. I see lot of people say the six month mark things get better so buckling down and praying to make it.
