parents alcoholics one sober one not

I am glad my mother is sober but she is also narcissistic. My father who is a functional alcoholic whatever that means is not sober. Im kinda burnt out with my mother and rarely talk to my father. Poor communication all our lives. Im happily married and am devoted to my husband. We have a son. There are a lot of families who are estranged. If this helps it gets easier as I get older. I didnt have a positive parenting experience.

Hello elv12378, and welcome to our corner of recovery. This is a very small and quiet forum, the "regulars" check in about once a week so please don't feel ignored if it takes a few days to get replies to your questions.

It is so difficult growing up with parents who drink. Communication is truly scarce. I believe it is because they use alcohol to hide their emotions and to deal with their crap. This creates a lack of communication.

I am happy to hear that your mom is sober. I hope that she attends meetings. This might help her to open up to you.

Being here might help you learn to cope with them.

Gentle hugs.
