All inclusive holiday test......PASSED

Paid for an all inclusive family holiday curtesy of sobriety.
Arrived at hotel 9pm just in time for dinner before the restaurant closed.
Sat down while my partner and daughter went to get their food.
Felt very uncomfortable. I’d usually have a drink at this point.
I looked at the free beer tap.
And the free wine tap.
Hit the pause button and made a plan while the urge did it’s thing.
I thought, right then. Going to get some fizzy water ( that was free too) drink a couple of glasses at the vender and take one back to the table.
Eat some good food, and have about 6 puddings and ice cream.
I did just that as soon as my 2 girls came back to the table.
Felt much better and more comfortable as my brain processed what was going on. My beast went away disgruntled but I knew it’d be back tomorrow by the pool bar.
Went to our room and unpacked went to sleep and woke up nice and fresh.
As I suspected the beast was waiting by the pool bar.
I was ready, had a few fizzy waters and a coffe.
I watched people get drink after drink and slowly ruin their day on a daily basis. Pretending to be be happy but just pushing through the grogginess.
I just kept on an even keel, able to do what we as a family wanted and go where we pleased at any given moment. Sobriety had given me the freedom to enjoy the holiday as a family unit.
Took about 2 days to work the pattern out and be absolutely sure that the traps and triggers were diffused and a new way of holidaying had begun.

F*CK YOU BEAST!

Well done!

Now. Watch out for that AV now that you are home. There is some "let-down" phenomenon that seems to happen after a newly sober person gets back from an event where they successfully remained sober.

Keep that cage door (with beast inside) firmly locked down. Maybe check and double-check that padlock.

Excellent work.

I second bblue's point, not sure why but I've experienced this and seen it here.

Stay vigilant but also celebrate your success. I for one look forward to a life of sober vacations.

I had a lull after the holiday for about a week, where I’d usually drink through it.
I was ready for it.
Felt really low as the rat race pace kicked back in at home.
I’m up to speed now and back on top.
No fear, thanks for the concern.

Thanks less,
I’ve lived the drunken life.
Its exciting finding out there’s just soooo much more out there.
Well done on 2 months by the way, you’re bossing it! Good luck

That is awesome. The all inclusive is NOT something I could handle at this point. One day...Your memories of this vacation are a great reward. Memories can be painful and scarce when we drink!

Even through the lulls and low points , I have enough sober time under my belt to know that the high points and steady coasting are more frequent.

It does get easier with time.
It’s hard to imagine how because I’ve never lived it.
But it does.
This seems to be a constant.
