Hello all,
After perusing these forums for the past few weeks, I figured it was time to join in and say hi.
Basically, I was a binge drinker from 17yo to 40yo. During the past 10 years (especially 2-3 years), my alcohol consumption has steadily increased in quantity and frequency. I first started to become concerned with this trajectory 12-18 months ago.
Over the winter, I did 3 or 4 "test runs" of a week or so without beer to gauge my dependence. Extreme (and fluctuating) anxiety was/is by far my most unnerving withdrawal symptom. Looking back, this probably dates my transition to a more serious dependence on alcohol to about 5 years ago.
I am now starting Day 4 (Day 1 was June 1st). I have been determined to quit since mid April and have had several "false starts" after putting together 8, 11 and 6 day stretches with no beer. I was not prepared for now difficult this would actually be.
Anyway, these forums have been very helpful in getting my mind around what this process is going to involve. Thank you all.

Welcome, Mr Wolfie. Good job on day 4, and keep posting. I used to be a lurker but I find I get a lot more out of interacting here. SR has been a vital part of my getting and staying sober and I wish you all the best on your journey.
Thank you all for the responses. I'm feeling good about things right now. My next big challenge will come Thursday when I start a week off from work. Downtime has been my downfall so far.
Welcome to SR!
I suggest stocking your fridge with your new non-alcoholic beverage and some healthy foods. When you don't need to go out to the store you will be less tempted to buy beer. Remember your triggers and H.A.L.T. when you have cravings for a drink. And, most importantly, remember that we are always here for you 24/7!
