At the end of week one
At the end of week one
Just popping in quickly to share my happiness at achieving day 7 (only just - it's just gone midnight).
It's not been too difficult as I've been unwell this week which has made it that little bit easier not to drink, but the cravings have still been there, especially today when I was feeling a bit better and the sun was out, and hubby was having a beer in the garden. Instead I washed my hair, I did some ironing and I ate some food - I always avoid eating when I'm drinking or planning to, as it gets in the way and stops me drinking too much, so a good way to combat cravings for me is to eat well.
So, here's to next week, and to many more after that.

Hello Kitty (I just couldn't help but saying that)
In case you may be interested in AA terminology:
+Mental Obsession - When Sober, the urge to drink is identified as a Mental Obsession to drink. We are Sober, but we have these compulsive thoughts, demands and desire to get Alcohol in our system. This is the Mental Obsession component.
+ Physical Craving - When we put Alcohol in our system, a physical 'condition' happens, where we 'Crave' more Alcohol. We cannot safely predict how much we will drink, or our ability to STOP drinking once we have put Alcohol into our system. If we can STOP, it is typically through definitive effort, and can't always be controlled or predicted. (Like playing Russian Roulette with drinking). This is the Physical component - Physical Craving.
These are 2 of the 3 'components' of 'Alcoholism' in AA terminology.
(Note: my understanding and practice of the AA program & book, Alcoholics Anonymous)

Great job making it to day 7. You should be proud of yourself.
Those little thoughts that tell me to drink are still there. I had one today and I'm on day 38. Does it help to play the tape through (i.e. thinking to myself, if I have one drink, I'm going to want another, and another, and pretty soon I'll be obliterated and will have ruined my sobriety.)
