Saying hello and introducing myself
Saying hello and introducing myself
Hi everyone,
I discovered this site whilst researching Recovery Forums, and thought it looks like my type of place.
Just to give some background - I have had a long term destructive association/relationship with Alcohol. For nearly 3 decades there's been a constant 'Rollercoaster', that's been modified to make it bigger, scarier and more expensive to ride. Now that I've finally made the circuit end, I feel like it's something I should be frightened to get on again, but worry if I can actually properly go through with.
At present, I've got 44 days Sobriety under my belt, through seeing Counsellors, Doctors and trying to get any type of help I can to keep things going forwards.
I'd really like to get to know people and find out what approaches have worked best for them (and any other hints and tips that might be useful), and most importantly meet 'like-minded' folk who understand.
Looking forward to discussing things ....
Best Regards,
Johnnie.

Welcome Johnnie!!!
You will find much support and warmth here.
There is a June 2018 class forum and a May 2018 forum (that’s my home class ).
I’m waking up to DAY6 and feeling very glad. No small feat for 40+ days!!!!
Glad you are here.

Welcome Johnnie, You will get out of this site what you put in. Read the threads. There is a lot of solid help and understanding. The best part is no one judges you here. If you fall they pick you up, dust you off and help you get back on the road to sobriety. Been working for me.
Welcome J...I am a J too. Sameish age, judging from your name.
I use the same tools you do- SR daily, a lot. Also AA meetings....like a soul top up. Even it if it is only to make myself be around humans.
Journal writing, exercise, art, anything in fact- but drinking.
Support to you.

Wow .... thank you everyone
I really appreciate you all responding. I'm still doing fine, and the best bit is I'm seeing others here doing the same. That's completely marvellous !!
Obviously I'm completely new to how the site works, and what to do - but I think given time I'm really going to find this useful to be among others that 'know' (if you get my drift).
I'm going to start by reading through some threads, and taking things calmly, rather than rushing, which I'm sure you'll already know leads to improper thinking.
So, once again big respect to everyone
Johnnie.

Gday Johnnie! I’m new here too. Really look forward hearing about your journey. 44 days - WOW! Well done mate. I’m on day zero, just focusing on getting to my daily AA meeting sober each lunchtime is my little step. You are an inspiration.
Hi again everyone, thanks so much for replying - and a big hello to Choppo !
That's great to hear Chop. I'm also using everything available, and I was at an AA meeting last night as it happens. In the past I would have run away from any mention of AA, God and Higher Powers, but you know the strange thing is that I actually sat & listened to what people were saying for once, and I know along with this site that is where I should be right now.
I could barely manage a week without drink, I think the furthest I got was about 2 & a half weeks for 'Dry January' 2 years ago, so this is all new and the fog seems to be lifting.
So, good on you mate & let me know how you're getting on, that goes for everyone else
Best Regards,
Johnnie.

Hi Johnnie
I just sent you a private message. Glad you are still doing well and staying with us. I go to AA also and I love it, I am making friends there, going to a bbq this Sunday with the AA lot, really looking forward to it. Stay strong. Take care.

Hi Juliet,
Thanks for the message. Glad to hear you're good - I tried to reply but the feature told me I need to post 15 times before I can use it (hopefully this will count as one of them).
Yeah, I was at an AA meeting last night. I'm using everything and anything to help me stay on track. It was good to just sit & listen, I felt as though it was where I should be.
I see you're from God's County too !!
Hope to keep in touch here,
All the very best,
Johnnie.

Hi Yixie,
Thank you and much appreciated !!
It's about time I properly tried to kick the drink.
Looking forward to keeping the dialogue going and contributing where I can.
