Alcohol and spending money
Alcohol and spending money
The amount of money I spend while off the wagon is ridiculous. I don't keep track, just spend it until my account is empty. I am very impulsive by nature (adhd) but purchase things that are unecessary and expensive when I really don't have the money. Alcohol brings out compulsive behaviours that I really hate. The lies I come up with to try to conceal my situation are also compulsive. Anyone relate to this?

Alcohol will make you do many stupid things you never would do while sober. Booze would drain my bank account from all the money I was spending on it.
Just another good reason to get sober. You can keep your money for things you actually need, instead of getting nothing but a drained bank account and a trash can full of empty bottles to show for it.

Impulsive purchasing is quite common, I think it speaks to the instant gratification part of our addictive brains and I have in the past had an itchy trigger finger over the buy now button when drinking.
I have mentioned this before on another thread but I have a clear jar on the mantle piece that I put in the cost of the alcohol I would have bought that day. Tomorrow will be my Day 30 milestone and I will have nearly £275 (around 475 canadian) in it. I have also popped in a few extra times for the take out's that I never ordered and the crisps/chocolate to go with the vino I would have bought.
It's been really helpful for me to see this every day building up and very confronting too.
